Centre Gallery is excited to announce our first fall show: UNCHARTED DISCOVERY: A Visual Journal of Extraordinary Objects in Our Midst by Laura Kmetz. The show includes installations of mixed media drawings, maps and stories of things fragile and discarded. Natural ephemera and broken fragments are archived and provided fictional histories, reinforcing concepts of reclamation and assignation. Kmetz reflects on the magnificence of things discovered, uncovering exotic forms seemingly hidden in plain sight.

This diverse installation offers multiple points of departure. Works on paper reveal the artist’s aesthetic. Paintings ascribe beauty and significance to the ordinary. Maps trace the path of her creative process, documenting prior associations and forming new ones. Objects, sealed in shadow boxes, fascinate in and of themselves.

Laura Kmetz holds a BFA from the University of Louisville and MA from Columbia University. She exhibited in several New York City galleries over eighteen years, and was a teacher of art in New York City schools. She currently lives in Tampa, Florida and her work can be viewed at Kmetz ArtandDesign.com.

Our opening reception, DessART, will be the second Monday of the show Aug. 22nd from 12-1 pm. Dessert and refreshments will be provided.
The Closing Reception will be held on Friday Aug. 26th from 7-9 pm. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
All Centre Gallery exhibits and receptions are free and open to the public.
