Tampa, FL (Feb. 22- Mar. 4, 2016)
The Centre Gallery is pleased to announce an upcoming exhibition of nature- inspired paintings by Kate Alboreo. This will be Alboreo’s first solo show in Tampa, and the first time her current body of work, titled Plantomachy, will be on display for public viewing. Alboreo is a second-year MFA student at the University of South Florida. She spent most of her life in northeast Ohio, where she earned her BFA in painting & drawing from the University of Akron in 2010. She left Ohio in 2014 to join the MFA program, from which she expects to graduate in spring 2017. Her work is an investigation of strange and bodily plant life of Florida’s unique ecosystems. In conducting her fieldwork, Alboreo explores the wildlife areas in Hillsborough County and the surrounding area, looking for subjects whose forms are naturally bizarre and anthropomorphic. The subjects of her work are often disfigured by scar tissue, freckled with fungi and lichen, or contorted into grotesque postures. She collects specimen and records her findings by making studies from life of the subject matter and documenting it through photography. These specimen, studies, and photographs are brought back to her studio as references for larger scale paintings. Alboreo does not consider her work to be landscape in nature, but rather figurative.
Our opening reception, DessART, will be the first Monday of the show Feb. 22th from 12-1 pm. Dessert and refreshments will be provided.
The Closing Reception will be held on Friday Mar. 4th from 7-9 pm. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
All Centre Gallery exhibits and receptions are free and open to the public.
