Tampa, FL (Mar. 7- 18, 2016)
Centre Gallery presents ‘Hasta Cuando?’ by Julian Pardo. This installation is a social commentary on one of South America’s largest problems, the mining industry, as well as the mining system and the exploitation of miners. The involvement of memory, the value of nature that we seemed to have forgotten, the multinational companies who irresponsibly leave forever scars of destruction through pollution such as the poisoning of our water are areas that I am exploring. The work consists of thirty suspended mining picks that dive into the floor, a representation of the Amazon River.
Julian Pardo is a Miami-based Colombian artist, who graduated from Broward College and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida International University. His work has been shown in local galleries such as the Young at Art Museum, Little Haiti Cultural Center, and Alma Gallery. Along with exhibiting his works, Pardo has also co-curated a South Florida artist based photography group exhibition titled Freshly Squeezed at the Dina Mitrani Gallery. He has worked under the guidance of many well-known artists Jim Goldberg from Magnum Photo, Alessandra Sanguinneti and Bruce Gilden. Social commentaries through the use of a variety of media became a focal interest as an expressive tool for ideas and personal experiences to translate into a universal understanding.
Our opening reception, DessART, will be the first Monday of the show Mar. 7th from 12-1 pm. Dessert and refreshments will be provided.
The Closing Reception will be held on Friday Mar. 18th from 7-9 pm. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
