The Centre Gallery Presents “Even Hands Can See”
Tactile paintings by Horst W. Mueller
Tampa, Fla. (Oct. 2013) –From October 14 through 18, the Centre Gallery at the University of South Florida will host Even Hands Can See by Horst Mueller. Visitors to the gallery will encounter tactile paintings aimed in including the blind and visually impaired in the appreciation of art.
Mueller shares his time between Buxtehude (Hamburg), Germany and Stuart, Fla. during the winters. He received his degrees in Economics and Engineering at the University of Cologne and Saarbruecken. Mueller blends his life experience with his love and artistic imagination to create his tactile paintings. Using traditional brushes and palette knives, along with his hands, results in a powerful multi-layered three dimensional art.
Through his artwork he aims to answer the question, “If art is truly a universal language, then why have the visually impaired been historically shut out?” In effect, Mueller invites the participants to “please touch my art.”
DessART, Centre Gallery’s opening reception for this exhibit, will be held on Oct. 14 from 12 – 1pm. The closing reception for Even Hands Can See will be held from 5 – 7pm on Friday, Oct. 11, in the Centre Gallery. The Centre Gallery is located on the second floor of the Marshall Student Center in room 2700, at 4202 E. Fowler Ave., Tampa, Fla. It is free and open to the public.
